Background & Impact

Year Awarded: 2024

Support Type: First Responder Assistance

Daniel Brumar, began his journey with the Detroit Police Department as a Cadet in May 2021. Just a few months into his service, his promising career was interrupted by a life-altering diagnosis — a brain tumor. Surgery to remove the tumor in September 2021 was successful in addressing the cancer, but resulted in ataxia, a condition affecting coordination and balance. The effects left Daniel unable to perform self-care tasks such as meal preparation, driving, housekeeping, and laundry. He now relies on a caregiver for daily support and is unable to live independently.

On August 17, 2024, The Jack Gargalino Memorial Foundation proudly presented Daniel with $10,000 through our First Responder Assistance Program. This support was made possible by our generous donors and event participants, and is intended to help Daniel with the care and resources he needs as he navigates life after his service. His resilience and courage are an inspiration, and we are honored to recognize his sacrifice and commitment to his community.
